Wauwinet
is a village located on the northeastern coast of the island of Nantucket in Massachusetts. The unusual name is that of an local Indian Chief that once lived in the area. Wauwinet is about 4.7 miles northwest of Siasconset. The beach area beyond Wauwinet is accessed by four-wheel drive vehicle only to the Great Point Lighthouse. Wauwinet is most well-known for being home to a luxurious hotel and resort. There are miles of secluded beach in the area, as well as a private bay beach, accessed by visitors of the resort. Things to do at The Wauwinet include a "spa by the sea" treatment, fine dining, relaxing in the herb gardens, tennis, yoga at the beach, cooking lessons, learning the trade of lobstering, a quiet beach walk, and too many other things to list. Recreational activities on Nantucket Island are unlimited; hiking, biking, kayaking, canoeing, surfing, sailing, boating, surf casting, birdwatching, and "retail therapy" in the many shops and boutiques. Visiting during the wintertime or when it's raining? No problem. Wauwinet offers board games, card games, puzzles, cooking with the chef, yoga in your room, massage, napping. Of course, you may want to venture in to the Nantucket Town Center to visit the museums, which include the Shipwreck & Lifesaving Museum, the Lightship Basket Museum, Nantucket Aquarium, The Whaling Museum, the Old Quaker Meetinghouse and more.

Wauwinet Weather & Climate

Nantucket Island has a moderate climate with four distinct seasons. The surrounding Atlantic Ocean moderates the climate of the offshore islands of Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, making it milder than that of inland Massachusetts. Rain and fog are not uncommon on Nantucket Island - even in the summertime. Spring is a short season and snow flurries are possible even in April. Summers are quite warm and humid, but with cooling ocean breezes that keep it from becoming too uncomfortable. Fall is very pleasant with mild, sunny days and cool, crisp nights. Extreme weather is a possibility every few years, including nor'easters and hurricanes. However, hurricanes generally weaken to a tropical storm by the time they reach the island.
