Shimmo
is a "populated place" located on the south shore of Nantucket Island, Massachusetts. There is also a Shimmo Beach in the same area, which is approximately 1.4 miles east of the Nantucket town center. Shimmo Beach is great for swimming, sunning, beachcombing, and picnics on the beach. It's also the site of 4th of July fireworks, and just minutes to several other south shore beaches. Attractions on Nantucket Island include the Sankaty Head Light, the Nantucket Shipwreck & Lifesaving Museum, the Lightship Basket Museum, Nantucket Aquarium, The Whaling Museum, the Old Quaker Meetinghouse and the African Meetinghouse. Nantucket is perfect for bicycling, in fact, it's a favorite mode of transportation on the island. Other recreational activities include swimming, fishing, sailing, windsurfing, kayaking and picnicking on the beach. The island is home to some of the best seafood restaurants in the country, and the town center's cobblestoned streets are lined with specialty shops, boutiques, and art galleries.

Nantucket Island has a moderate climate with four distinct seasons. The surrounding Atlantic Ocean moderates the climate of the offshore islands of Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, making it milder than that of inland Massachusetts. Rain and fog are not uncommon on Nantucket Island - even in the summertime. Spring is a short season and snow flurries are possible even in April. Summers are quite warm and humid, but with cooling ocean breezes that keep it from becoming too uncomfortable. Fall is very pleasant with mild, sunny days and cool, crisp nights. Extreme weather is a possibility every few years, including nor'easters and hurricanes. However, hurricanes generally weaken to a tropical storm by the time they reach the island.
