Siasconset
is an unincorporated village located on the eastern end of Nantucket Island. In the early 1900s, it was a summer retreat for an actor's colony. Today, Siasconaset is most known for being home to the Sankaty Head Golf Club. Sankaty was designed by Emerson Armstrong and opened in 1923. Membership is private, but the public is welcome to play in the off-season (October through May) for a fee. The golf club is also home to one of the last remaining caddy camps in the world. Other attractions in the close vicinity include the famous Sankaty Head Light, built in 1850, it's one of the most photographed lighthouses on the eastern seaboard. The grounds around the lighthouse are open to the public but the actual lighthouse is not. Nantucket is an island with something for everyone. Museums include the Nantucket Shipwreck & Lifesaving Museum, the Lightship Basket Museum, Nantucket Aquarium, The Whaling Museum, the Old Quaker Meetinghouse and the African Meetinghouse. Nantucket is perfect for bicycling, in fact, it's a favorite mode of transportation on the island. Other recreational activities include swimming, fishing, sailing, windsurfing, kayaking and picnicking on the beach. The island is home to some of the best seafood restaurants in the country, and the town center's cobblestoned streets are lined with specialty shops, boutiques, and art galleries.

Siasconset Weather & Climate

Nantucket Island has a moderate climate with four distinct seasons. The surrounding Atlantic Ocean moderates the climate of the offshore islands of Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, making it milder than that of inland Massachusetts. Rain and fog are not uncommon on Nantucket Island - even in the summertime. Spring is a short season and snow flurries are possible even in April. Summers are quite warm and humid, but with cooling ocean breezes that keep it from becoming too uncomfortable. Fall is very pleasant with mild, sunny days and cool, crisp nights. Extreme weather is a possibility every few years, including nor'easters and hurricanes. However, hurricanes generally weaken to a tropical storm by the time they reach the island.
