Pocomo
is an area of Nantucket Island, located on a peninsula on the east end of the island between Quaise and Wauminet. The Pocomo Point beach offers panoramic views of Medouie Creek and Coatue Beach. At Pocomo, you can enjoy swimming, sunning, beachcombing, kayaking or kiteboarding. After a day at the beach, if you want to visit downtown Nantucket, it's just a few minutes away by car or boat. The entire island of Nantucket is a National Historic Landmark District - the largest in the United States. There are several museums to visit, including the Whaling Museum and the Maria Mitchell Association, which is a non-profit organization that owns an observatory, aquarium and natural history museum. Nantucket is also known for its writers, artists and galleries. Many notable artists have lived on the island, including Frank Swift Chase and Herman Melville. Of course, nothing beats the fantastic fresh seafood of Nantucket, which can be found in both casual and fine dining. Things to do include swimming, boating, sailing, bicycling, hiking, exploring the island's lighthouses and shopping in the fine shops and boutiques. Seasonal shuttle buses run May to October to the beaches and other locations on the island.

Nantucket Island has a moderate climate with four distinct seasons. The surrounding Atlantic Ocean moderates the climate of the offshore islands of Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, making it milder than that of inland Massachusetts. Rain and fog are not uncommon on Nantucket Island - even in the summertime. Spring is a short season and snow flurries are possible even in April. Summers are quite warm and humid, but with cooling ocean breezes that keep it from becoming too uncomfortable. Fall is very pleasant with mild, sunny days and cool, crisp nights. Extreme weather is a possibility every few years, including nor'easters and hurricanes. However, hurricanes generally weaken to a tropical storm by the time they reach the island.
