West-Tisbury
is located on Martha's Vineyard off the coast of Massachusetts. It has a population of about 2,500. West Tisbury, Chilmark and Aquinnah make up what is known as "Up-Island" on Martha's Vineyard. West Tisbury was first settled in 1669 as part of the town of Tisbury. West Tisbury separated and incorporated in 1892. However, the original settlement of the town of Tisbury is still located in West Tisbury, along with the villages of Vineyard Haven, North Tisbury and Christiantown. Vineyard Haven is the main village, or town center, of West Tisbury, and the two names are used interchangeably. West Tisbury/Vineyard Haven is the main port of entry to Martha's Vineyard. This is where you'll find most of the year-round stores on the island, as well as several fine restaurants. Tisbury has been home to many of the rich and famous and celebrities over the years. Ferries arrive and depart daily from the Steamship Authority Wharf, carrying passengers to the mainland. Attractions in Tisbury include Owen Park, the War Veterans' Memorial Park, the Old Schoolhouse Museum, West Chop Lighthouse and the Vineyard Playhouse. The 279-acre Tashmoo Lake is also located here and offers a beach that is open daily, dusk to dawn, swimming, sailing, kayaking, snorkeling and picnicking.

Martha's Vineyard has a four-season climate, with milder winters and cooler summers than places further inland. Surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean brings changeable weather to this region. It has plenty of sunshine, but rain and fog are not uncommon - even in the summertime. Spring is a short season on Martha's Vineyard and snow is possible even in April. Summers are quite warm and humid, but with cooling ocean breezes. Fall is often the most pleasant with mild, sunny days and cool, crisp nights. Extreme weather is possible, such as severe thunderstorms, nor'easters and hurricanes. However, hurricanes generally weaken to a tropical storm by the time they reach Martha's Vineyard.
