Menemsha
is an old fishing port near the western end of Martha's Vineyard in southern Massachusetts. The Menemsha area offers some of the best sunsets on the island. It's a tradition in Menemsha to eat dinner on the beach and watch the sunset...complete with applause as the sun dips below the horizon. Some people even bring chairs, tables, candles and wine. There's a fish market located at Menemsha that serves lobster, stuffed or steamed clams, crab cakes and oysters. They'll serve it on a plate or put it in a bag, ready for the beach. Other things to do here include fishing and crabbing. Of course, all of the fantastic attractions of Martha's Vineyard are just minutes away. Beautiful beaches, art galleries, boutiques, lighthouse, world-class spas - it's all available on Martha's Vineyard. Bike paths are numerous on Martha's Vineyard and so are bike rentals - if you don't have your own to bring along. One of the most scenic and easiest rides in the area is the six-mile trail from Edgartown to Oak Bluffs. It follows along the sandy stretch of Joseph Sylvia State Beach, with lots of places along the way to stop and stretch, play, picnic and enjoy the view.

Martha's Vineyard has a four-season climate, with milder winters and cooler summers than places further inland. Surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean brings changeable weather to this region. It has plenty of sunshine, but rain and fog are not uncommon - even in the summertime. Spring is a short season on Martha's Vineyard and snow is possible even in April. Summers are quite warm and humid, but with cooling ocean breezes. Fall is often the most pleasant with mild, sunny days and cool, crisp nights. Extreme weather is possible, such as severe thunderstorms, nor'easters and hurricanes. However, hurricanes generally weaken to a tropical storm by the time they reach Martha's Vineyard.
