Nahant
is located on the Atlantic Coast of Massachusetts in the southernmost part of Essex County, approximately 15 miles north of Boston. This small seaside community has a year round population of around 3,800 residents and is connected to the mainland in the town of Lynn by a one-mile long causeway. There is only one road leading in and out of Nahant. Incorporated in 1853, Nahant was the site of a huge hotel complex on the Atlantic Coast and an annual regatta. An era of skyrocketing growth began about 1870 and continued for the next four decades with hundreds of summer homes going up in the town. Today, Nahant is a charming resort town where cool ocean breezes and the picturesque rocky shore make it a favorite vacation destination for many people. The town offers several restaurants and a variety of stores, and activities such as swimming and sunning, sailing, fishing, golf, biking, birding, tennis and more. The town's panoramic ocean views are spectacular as seen from East Point, Forty Steps and Bailey's Hill. Lynn Woods, the largest municipal park in the state, is located across the causeway in the town of Lynn and contains several historical sites, a rose garden and 2200 acres for hiking, horseback riding and picnicking.

Southeastern Massachusetts , along the coast, has a continental climate with maritime influences. Some areas are classified as humid continental, and others are humid subtropical. Summers are warm and humid with the possibility of thunderstorms. Occasionally these storms are severe with hail and heavy downpours. Winters are cold and snowy, with most snowfall occurring between December and March. Spring and autumn are mild, but changeable depending on the wind direction and jet stream. Cool sea breezes are common, especially in spring. Fog is also commonplace, especially in spring and early summer. Tropical storms or hurricanes are possible, especially in early autumn, but not common.
