Holland
is a small town located in Hampden County in south central Massachusetts. It is about 32 miles south of Worcester, 70 miles southwest of Boston and 150 miles from New York City. It is largely a rural, residential community of about 2,400 residents. One of Holland's main attractions is its' location among rolling, wooded hills, and its' waterways; the Hamilton Reservoir, Holland Pond and the Quinebaug River. These recreational resources attract visitors, many of whom have vacation homes here. Hamilton Lake is known for its' recreational facilities and activities like swimming, boating and fishing. The State of Massachusetts stocks the reservoir with trout each year. The area surrounding Hamilton Lake is very picturesque - nestled among two mountain ranges that reach elevations up to 1,100 feet. Hiking, biking, horseback riding and antiquing are some of the other activities available in the area. Holland is a traditional, charming New England village that is over 200 years old and offers many services, shops and restaurants. Other nearby attractions include the Worchester Ecotarium, an indoor-outdoor museum with interactive exhibits, nature trails, wildlife habitats, a planetarium and an explorer express train. The Southwick Zoo, New England's largest zoo, is just a short drive from Holland, and antique buffs will love visiting the Brimfield Antique Fair, held three times a year.

Central Massachusetts has a humid continental climate with four distinct seasons. Winters are cold and snowy and summers are warm and humid. There is a large seasonal temperature variance in central Massachusetts, because places further inland do not have the moderating influence of the ocean. West-central Massachusetts has colder winters and cooler summers than areas along the coast. Summer thunderstorms are common, on average about 30 per year. Nor-easters (winter storms with winds coming from the Northeast) can drop a foot or more of snow. In summer, central Massachusetts is slightly more humid than the coast. Autumn brings crisp air and sunny days. Spring, on the other hand, is usually wet and cloudy.
