Worcester
is located in central Massachusetts, approximately 45 miles west of Boston. It is the second largest city in the state and one of the fastest growing regions in the country. Everything from world-renowned museums and theater, outdoor recreation to shopping and fine dining can be found in Worcester. Many of the city's cultural venues can be found along the two-mile Cultural Corridor, easily accessible from Exits 16-18 off Interstate 290. The historic Mechanics Hall can be found here, recognized as the finest existing pre-Civil War concert hall in America. It is also home to the Worcester Music Festival, the oldest music festival in the nation. Other attractions in the city of Worchester include Tuckerman Hall, the Worcester Art Museum (New England's second largest art museum,) the Higgins Armory Museum and Union Station, recently renovated and now home to a restaurant, blues lounge and the FDR American Heritage Center Museum. Worcester is also home to Elm Park, the nation's oldest park and one of the first of its' kind in the country. Both the City Common and Elm Park are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Worcester offers a variety of dining experiences, with everything from brewpubs to gourmet dining. Shopping in Worcester includes large malls and department stores, boutiques, specialty shops and local artisans' galleries. The region surrounding the city is known for its' tranquil beauty and outdoor activities include swimming, hiking, biking, horseback riding, golf, boating and skating. Worcester is also home to the regions only professional hockey team - the Worcester Ice Cats.

Central Massachusetts has a humid continental climate with four distinct seasons. Winters are cold and snowy and summers are warm and humid. There is a large seasonal temperature variance in central Massachusetts, because places further inland do not have the moderating influence of the ocean. West-central Massachusetts has colder winters and cooler summers than areas along the coast. Summer thunderstorms are common, on average about 30 per year. Nor-easters (winter storms with winds coming from the Northeast) can drop a foot or more of snow. In summer, central Massachusetts is slightly more humid than the coast. Autumn brings crisp air and sunny days. Spring, on the other hand, is usually wet and cloudy.
