Sturbridge
is a historical town located in Worcester County in south-central Massachusetts. As of the 2010 census, the population was 9,268. The town is most well-known for being home Old Sturbridge Village - a living history museum. Old Sturbridge Village is one of the country's oldest and largest living history museums. It's located on Route 20 and is open year round. Hours change seasonally, however, so it's best to check ahead before visiting. The Village re-creates life in rural New England from the 1790s through the 1830s. It covers more than 200 acres and includes 59 buildings, three water-powered mills plus a working farm. Visitors can view the buildings and antiques, see farm animals and take part in hands-on crafts. Costumed historians are also on hand at the Village. Other attractions in Sturbridge include Tantiusques, which is an open-space reservation and historic site and Wells State Park, a 1,400-acre woodland park and campground. The state park has over ten miles of hiking trails that meander through spectacular wooded forest. Walker Pond, inside the park, offers fishing, canoeing and swimming. As part of Worcester County, Sturbridge is just a short drive to other places of interest, such as the Wachusett Mountain State Forest and Ski Area and Leominster State Forest.

Central Massachusetts has a humid continental climate with four distinct seasons. Winters are cold and snowy and summers are warm and humid. There is a large seasonal temperature variance in central Massachusetts, because places further inland do not have the moderating influence of the ocean. West-central Massachusetts has colder winters and cooler summers than areas along the coast. Summer thunderstorms are common, on average about 30 per year. Nor-easters (winter storms with winds coming from the Northeast) can drop a foot or more of snow. In summer, central Massachusetts is slightly more humid than the coast. Autumn brings crisp air and sunny days. Spring, on the other hand, is usually wet and cloudy.
