Webster
is a town located in Worcester County in south-central Massachusetts on the Connecticut border. As of the 2010 census, the population was 16,767. The town of Webster is home to Lake Chaubunagungamaug, also known as Webster Lake. The lake is as well-known for its' unique name as it is for anything else. Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg, is a 45-letter alternative spelling of the lake name that comes from the Algonquian language. Although it's known by most tourists as Webster Lake, many locals take great pride in using the longer version. The U.S. Department of the Interior recognizesChaubunagungamaug as the official name of the lake. Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg is the longest place name in the United States, and one of the longest in the world. It's said to mean, Fishing Place at the Boundaries - Neutral Meeting Grounds According to records dating back to 1668, the Algonquian-speaking peoples had several different name spellings for the lake, but all were similar and had basically the same translation. Three songs have been written about the lake. Webster Lake has a surface area of 1,442 acres and includes 8 islands. Some of the islands are uninhabitable, but others have houses and residents. Activities at Webster Lake include boating, sailing, fishing, waterskiing, swimming and picnicking. The town of Webster is about 18 miles south of Worcester, 56 miles southwest of Boston, and 33 miles northwest of Providence, Rhode Island.

Northeast Connecticut has four seasons that lie within the transition zone of humid subtropical and humid continental. The pertinent characteristics of Connecticut's climate are: equal distribution of precipitation among the four seasons, large ranges of temperature both daily and annually, and considerable diversity of the weather over short periods of time. Heavy or dense fog is observed on an average of about 25 days per year in both coastal and inland sections. Humidity tends to be lowest in the spring and highest in the late summer. There is a difference of about 6 °F. in mean annual temperature from north to south of the State. The greater contrast of temperature occurs during the winter season.
