Cliff
is a residential area of Nantucket Island, located less than one mile to the town center and about a half-mile to Jetties Beach. You can walk, bicycle or catch a shuttle to town if you don't have a car. The historic Cliff area is one of the island's most desirable neighborhoods, and is near the Vanderbilt Westmoor Farms. There are lots of vacation rental homes available in the Cliff area, and all the attractions of Nantucket Island are easily accessed from here. Nantucket is only three by nine miles, and chock full of New England beauty and charm. The entire island is a designated National Historic District, and almost forty percent of Nantucket is protected conservation land. Bicycling is a good way to explore Nantucket where the cobblestone streets are lined with fine shops and boutiques, art galleries and museums. Guided tours of the island are also available. Restaurants abound, whether formal or informal (fresh Nantucket seafood is, of course, part of the whole experience of the island.) Special events on Nantucket Island include a Daffodil Festival in the spring and the Annual Christmas Stroll in December. Getting around the island is easy - seasonal shuttle buses run May to October to the beaches and other locations and bicycles are available to rent.

Nantucket Island has a moderate climate with four distinct seasons. The surrounding Atlantic Ocean moderates the climate of the offshore islands of Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, making it milder than that of inland Massachusetts. Rain and fog are not uncommon on Nantucket Island - even in the summertime. Spring is a short season and snow flurries are possible even in April. Summers are quite warm and humid, but with cooling ocean breezes that keep it from becoming too uncomfortable. Fall is very pleasant with mild, sunny days and cool, crisp nights. Extreme weather is a possibility every few years, including nor'easters and hurricanes. However, hurricanes generally weaken to a tropical storm by the time they reach the island.
