Surfside
is the name of a beach on Nantucket Island, Massachusetts. It's located at the end of Surfside Bike Path, a 3-mile paved biking/hiking path, or via a shuttle bus. Surfside Beach is gorgeous, with wide sugar soft sands that are perfect for picnics, sunning, relaxing as you listen to the waves. And speaking of waves, Surfside is said by many to have the best waves on the island. It's a popular beach for teenagers and young adults, as well as families. Kite flying is allowed, although you are not allowed to fly them east of Surfside towards the airport. Lifeguards are on duty and the beach also has restrooms, showers, public phones and a snack bar. Other attractions on Nantucket Island include the Sankaty Head Light, the Shipwreck & Lifesaving Museum, the Lightship Basket Museum, Nantucket Aquarium, The Whaling Museum, the Old Quaker Meetinghouse and the African Meetinghouse. Recreational activities include bicycling, hiking, swimming, fishing, sailing, windsurfing, kayaking and picnicking on the beach.

Surfside Weather & Climate

Nantucket Island has a moderate climate with four distinct seasons. The surrounding Atlantic Ocean moderates the climate of the offshore islands of Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, making it milder than that of inland Massachusetts. Rain and fog are not uncommon on Nantucket Island - even in the summertime. Spring is a short season and snow flurries are possible even in April. Summers are quite warm and humid, but with cooling ocean breezes that keep it from becoming too uncomfortable. Fall is very pleasant with mild, sunny days and cool, crisp nights. Extreme weather is a possibility every few years, including nor'easters and hurricanes. However, hurricanes generally weaken to a tropical storm by the time they reach the island.
