Dionis
is the name of a beach located on Nantucket Island in southeastern Massachusetts. It's about 3 miles west of the Nantucket town center. Dionis Beach is known for its beautiful sand dunes and calm waters, which makes it a good beach for families with young children. Dionis Beach is somewhat secluded and is reached by winding, sandy roads. It's perfect for swimming, fishing, picnicking, shell hunting and sunning. The entire island of Nantucket only three by nine miles - a major tourist destination for the state of Massachusetts. The whole island is a designated National Historic District and from the mid-1700s to the late 1830s, it was the whaling capital of the world. Nearly forty percent of Nantucket is protected conservation land, and the island is known for its' beautiful, wide sandy beaches, including Dionis Beach. Restaurants abound on the island, with fresh Nantucket seafood being a specialty. Special events on Nantucket Island include a Daffodil Festival in the spring and the Annual Christmas Stroll (usually held the first weekend in December as part of a month long Nantucket Noel Celebration.) Getting around the island is easy - seasonal shuttle buses run May to October to the beaches and other locations. Bicycles are another popular means of transportation, and rental cars, taxis and limousine services are also available.

Nantucket Island has a moderate climate with four distinct seasons. The surrounding Atlantic Ocean moderates the climate of the offshore islands of Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, making it milder than that of inland Massachusetts. Rain and fog are not uncommon on Nantucket Island - even in the summertime. Spring is a short season and snow flurries are possible even in April. Summers are quite warm and humid, but with cooling ocean breezes that keep it from becoming too uncomfortable. Fall is very pleasant with mild, sunny days and cool, crisp nights. Extreme weather is a possibility every few years, including nor'easters and hurricanes. However, hurricanes generally weaken to a tropical storm by the time they reach the island.
