Truro
is a small community located in southwestern Massachusetts on "Outer Cape Cod" or the "wrist" of the Cape. It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on the north and east, Wellfleet on the south and Cape Cod Bay on the west. Truro is mostly rural in nature with the quaint and unique character of "Old Cape Cod" still intact. The town is the site where the Pilgrims found a cache of corn at a place called Corn Hill, which saved them from starvation their first year in the New World. Truro offers ten of the most beautiful beaches on the Atlantic Coast, on both the ocean and bay side, along with nature trails, bike paths and Cape Cod's oldest golf course (a 9-hole, par 36 course with a pro shop, snack bar, cart rentals, lessons and club rentals.) Boat launching facilities are located at Pamet Harbor on Depot Road (the Pamet River is the entrance to Cape Cod Bay,) and over half of the land in Truro is located within the Cape Cod National Seashore. The town is also home to the Cape Cod Light, which is Cape Cod's oldest lighthouse, first erected in 1797 and later replaced in 1857. Other attractions include the Highland House Museum (located near the Cape Cod Lighthouse,) the Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill Mission, and many fine restaurants and first class accommodations. Truro is approximately 37 miles north of Hyannis and 106 miles southeast of Boston.

The north tip of Cape Cod has a four season climate that is generally more moderate than inland Massachusetts. Extreme conditions such as blizzards and hurricanes are possible, but not typical. Due to the moderating affect of the ocean, temperatures in Cape Cod are usually a few degrees cooler in summer and a few degrees warmer in winter. Spring comes late and is chilly, but autumn is mild and remains warmer than places further inland. This is due to the ocean remaining warm after the summer season. The Cape Cod region has the lowest precipitation of anyplace in New England. A tropical storm happens once every 5 or 6 years, with very high winds and heavy rain. On average, the area is hit by a hurricane once every 11 or 12 years.
