North-Eastham
is a village located within the town of Eastham on the "Outer Cape" area of Cape Cod in Barnstable County, Massachusetts. As of the 2000 census, it had a population of 1,915 residents. The Outer Cape is home to the Cape Cod National Seashore and also includes the towns of Orleans, Wellfleet, Truro and Provincetown. This region is more secluded than other places on the Cape and is a great summer tourist destination due to the spectacular beaches of the National Seashore. The town of Eastham and village of North Eastham are resort communities that straddle the "arm" of Cape Cod - bounded by water on two sides. Eastham's summer resort history began as early as 1830 when the Methodist Church established a summer camp here. Some original sections of town are still visible inside the National Park areas, while modern residential growth has taken place in other areas of town. The Cape Cod National Seashore offers 43,068 acres of shoreline, along with salt marshes, deep freshwater kettle ponds, uplands and a variety of wildlife. Activities include swimming at six beaches, eleven self-guided nature trails, scenic overlooks, fishing, biking and a variety of picnic areas. This Eastham Windmill is believed to be the oldest on Cape Cod; probably built in the early 1680's in Plymouth. Each summer, a guest miller instructs tourists in the history and operation of the mill, and each fall, Eastham celebrates "Windmill Weekend" with a parade and activities on the Windmill Green.

North Eastham Weather & Climate

The north tip of Cape Cod has a four season climate that is generally more moderate than inland Massachusetts. Extreme conditions such as blizzards and hurricanes are possible, but not typical. Due to the moderating affect of the ocean, temperatures in Cape Cod are usually a few degrees cooler in summer and a few degrees warmer in winter. Spring comes late and is chilly, but autumn is mild and remains warmer than places further inland. This is due to the ocean remaining warm after the summer season. The Cape Cod region has the lowest precipitation of anyplace in New England. A tropical storm happens once every 5 or 6 years, with very high winds and heavy rain. On average, the area is hit by a hurricane once every 11 or 12 years.
