Salisbury
is a small town located in Essex County in the northeast corner of Massachusetts on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. As of the 2000 census, the population was 7,827. Salisbury is a popular summer resort town, just 45 miles north of Boston. This area is known as the Northshore of Massachusetts. Salisbury is on the border of New Hampshire to the north and the Merrimack River and the city of Newburyport are to the south. This area that once belonged to the Pentucket Indian tribe was settled by the English in 1638. The original roads of the town formed a tight semicircle, which allowed settlers to quickly reach the garrison house in case of an attack. Those roads still exist in Salisbury today. In the late 1800s, Salisbury became a thriving summer resort with shops, hotels, arcades and amusement parks lining its' five miles of beautiful beach. Major entertainers such as Glen Miller, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra and Liberace performed at Salisbury. The resort remained active until the 1960s and gradually faded. Now it's home to Salisbury Beach State Reservation, a 521-acre park with a 3.8-mile long beach. The park is popular for swimming, boating, fishing and camping. Harbor seals are often found on a jetty in the fall and winter.

The southwestern tip of Maine, just across the New Hampshire state line, enjoys a four-season climate without the frigid temperatures of the northeastern part of the state. While the weather can change quickly in Maine (from sunny to stormy,) the seasons are pretty predictable. Fall is a favorite time of the year for many, with mild sunny days and crisp cool nights. With its proximity to the ocean, this part of Maine enjoys mild summers with cool ocean breezes and temperatures that rarely go over 80 degrees. Rain is possible anytime of the year. Visitors should come prepared for anything - temperatures in Maine have been known to swing 20 degrees in less than an hour. At times, the wind along the coast picks up, making it seem even cooler.
