Marshfield
is a coastal community located in southeastern Massachusetts in Plymouth County. It is approximately 30 miles from Boston and 50 miles northeast of Providence, Rhode Island. Founded in 1640 by Edward Winslow, who was a shipmate of the Pilgrims on board the Mayflower, Marshfield was the birthplace and home of Daniel Webster. A road in the early settlement (perhaps the first official road in the new country) connected Marshfield to Plymouth Colony. This byway, known as the Pilgrim Trail, still exists in sections, including a stretch off Webster Street in Marshfield that was recently included in a parcel recorded by the National Register of Historic Places. Today Marshfield has a permanent population of around 21,000 residents, which swells to approximately 40,000 in the summertime. The town boasts several picturesque beaches and takes great pride in its' unique environmental beauty - both along the coast and inland. Marshfield is also home to several special events throughout the year, including the Marshfield Fair, which attracts visitors from all over the state. Recreational activities in the area include swimming, canoeing and kayaking, hiking, boating, deep-sea and fresh water fishing, golf, whale watching and birding. Nearby historical sites include Plimouth Plantation, the Mayflower II and Plymouth Rock.

Southeastern Massachusetts , along the coast, has a continental climate with maritime influences. Some areas are classified as humid continental, and others are humid subtropical. Summers are warm and humid with the possibility of thunderstorms. Occasionally these storms are severe with hail and heavy downpours. Winters are cold and snowy, with most snowfall occurring between December and March. Spring and autumn are mild, but changeable depending on the wind direction and jet stream. Cool sea breezes are common, especially in spring. Fog is also commonplace, especially in spring and early summer. Tropical storms or hurricanes are possible, especially in early autumn, but not common.
