Plymouth
is located in southeastern Massachusetts on Plymouth Bay, about 34 miles southeast of Boston. It is the seat of Plymouth County and was the site of the first permanent European settlement in New England. The Pilgrims founded Plymouth on December 21, 1620, establishing a settlement that became the seat of Plymouth Colony in 1633 and a part of Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1691. Today, "America's Hometown" is a thriving tourist and fishing center with ship-related industries and cranberry-packing houses. Some of the attractions in town include Plymouth Rock (located on the shore under a granite canopy) and recreations of Plimouth Plantation and the Mayflower. There are dozens of historic homes, museums and monuments to tour, antique shopping, fine dining and special attractions such as the "Colonial Lantern Tours" of the town's historic district and "Dead of the Night" ghost tours. The largest concentration of shops is located in the downtown center, which is quintessential New England with its' wide sidewalks and street-side storefronts. You can tour Plymouth Harbor on a Mississippi-style paddlewheeler, charter a boat for a day of deep sea fishing or go whale watching in Cape Cod Bay. Plymouth has wineries, beach activities and three public golf courses, including one in the "Top Ten Golf Courses in the USA" by Golf Magazine. The Visitor Center for Plymouth is located on Water Street across the street from Plymouth Harbor. They have a lot of information and brochures on the many attractions, restaurants, shopping and accommodations that will help you navigate your way around this delightfully historic city.

Southeastern Massachusetts , along the coast, has a continental climate with maritime influences. Some areas are classified as humid continental, and others are humid subtropical. Summers are warm and humid with the possibility of thunderstorms. Occasionally these storms are severe with hail and heavy downpours. Winters are cold and snowy, with most snowfall occurring between December and March. Spring and autumn are mild, but changeable depending on the wind direction and jet stream. Cool sea breezes are common, especially in spring. Fog is also commonplace, especially in spring and early summer. Tropical storms or hurricanes are possible, especially in early autumn, but not common.
