Madaket
is a village located on the island of Nantucket in southern Massachusetts. It lies on the far western side of the island, "as far west as you can go," as locals say. The village has had several different spellings over the years, "Madaquet," "Maddaket," "Maddequet," and Mattaket," but the official spelling is Madaket. The beach at Madaket is popular for viewing sunsets and is good for kite flying, beachcombing and picnicking. There is usually heavy surf here, though, so it's not the best beach for swimming. There is a scenic, paved bike path at Madaket, and it's served by regular NRTA shuttle bus service to other parts of Nantucket Island. For attractions to see: the entire island of Nantucket is a designated National Historic District and contains one of the highest concentrations of pre-Civil War structures in the United States. Nearly forty percent of the island is protected conservation land. It's known for its' beautiful, wide sandy beaches, cobblestone streets lined with boutiques, art galleries and museums and great seafood restaurants. Bicycling is a good way to explore the island and guided tours of the island are also available.

Madaket Weather & Climate

Nantucket Island has a moderate climate with four distinct seasons. The surrounding Atlantic Ocean moderates the climate of the offshore islands of Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, making it milder than that of inland Massachusetts. Rain and fog are not uncommon on Nantucket Island - even in the summertime. Spring is a short season and snow flurries are possible even in April. Summers are quite warm and humid, but with cooling ocean breezes that keep it from becoming too uncomfortable. Fall is very pleasant with mild, sunny days and cool, crisp nights. Extreme weather is a possibility every few years, including nor'easters and hurricanes. However, hurricanes generally weaken to a tropical storm by the time they reach the island.
