Swansea
is a town located at the mouth of the Taunton River in southeastern Massachusetts. The village of Ocean Grove is located inside the town. The town of Swansea is about 47 miles south of Boston and only 12 miles southeast of Providence, Rhode Island. As of the 2010 census, the population was 15,865 residents. The town was settled in 1662 and named for Swansea, Wales, which was the homeland of many of the settlers. After experiencing religious intolerance in the town of Rehoboth, members of the First Baptist Church in Massachusetts relocated the parish to Swansea, which then became an independent town. Then, in 1747, what is now the town of Barrington, Rhode Island split from Swansea over religious differences. Today, Swansea is home to a lovely beach area that's open to the public for swimming, sunning, picnicking and other beach activities. Lifeguards are on duty daily from 10:00am to 4:00pm and season passes are available. Other outdoor recreation includes hiking, biking, canoeing, fishing at the Taunton Wild & Scenic River. Letterboxing has become popular in the Swansea area, which is a navigational game that uses the skills of rubber stamp artistry in an outdoor treasure hunt. Swansea is also home to a children's playground area at Covel Estates and the MassBike biking trail.

Southeastern Massachusetts has a continental climate with maritime influences. Some areas are classified as humid continental, and others are humid subtropical. Summers are warm and humid with the possibility of thunderstorms. Occasionally these storms are severe with hail and heavy downpours. Winters are cold and snowy, with most snowfall occurring between December and March. Spring and autumn are mild, but changeable depending on the wind direction and jet stream. Cool sea breezes are common, especially in spring. Fog is also commonplace, especially in spring and early summer. Tropical storms or hurricanes are possible, especially in early autumn, but not common. Most hurricanes weaken by the time they reach Massachusetts.
