Fairhaven
is fishing/resort community located along the shore of Buzzards Bay, directly across the harbor from the famous whaling port of New Bedford. Acushnet borders it on the north, Mattapoisett on the east, Buzzards Bay on the south and New Bedford Harbor on the west. This pretty seaside community has a rich history dating back to the days of the Pilgrims. Fairhaven militiamen, aboard the sloop "Success," in May of 1775 fought the first naval battle of the American Revolution. The town withstood an attack by the British in 1778 and grew in prosperity during the whaling days in the 1800s. Fairhaven has a number of European-style public buildings that were built by Standard Oil Company millionaire, Henry Huttleston Rogers, between 1885 and 1906. The town began to grow as a suburban community in the late 1870s when the street railway connected it to New Bedford. Around the same time, Fairhaven began to develop as a summer resort area. Fairhaven offers a public beach and several recreational marinas, Fort Phoenix, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Rogers buildings, free walking tours and a variety of unique shops and many restaurants. It is approximately 15 miles southeast of Fall River and 55 miles south of Boston.

Southeastern Massachusetts has a continental climate with maritime influences. Some areas are classified as humid continental, and others are humid subtropical. Summers are warm and humid with the possibility of thunderstorms. Occasionally these storms are severe with hail and heavy downpours. Winters are cold and snowy, with most snowfall occurring between December and March. Spring and autumn are mild, but changeable depending on the wind direction and jet stream. Cool sea breezes are common, especially in spring. Fog is also commonplace, especially in spring and early summer. Tropical storms or hurricanes are possible, especially in early autumn, but not common. Most hurricanes weaken by the time they reach Massachusetts.
