Popponesset-Beach
is a "census-designated place" located in the town of Mashpee on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The population is approximately 350. Aside from the gorgeous beach, Popponesset Beach is most well known for the Popponesset Marketplace. The marketplace is a lively collection of small boutiques, art galleries, outdoor cafés and eateries. Live music performs at the marketplace Thursday to Sunday, all summer long. Free concerts are held 7:00pm to 9:00pm. It's just a fun, charming place to hang out. Flowers overflow from window boxes, shops have their doors open as visitors linger outside, chatting and eating ice cream cones. The whole atmosphere of Cape Cod is laid back and peaceful. Popponesset Beach is on the southwest end of Cape Cod. Popular activities in the area include boating, fishing, swimming, sunning, beachcombing, hiking, biking and golf. The town of Mashpee is also home to the famous Mashpee Commons, a community shopping center known for its' traditional New England-style architecture. Mashpee is unique in that it is one of the remaining homes of the Wampanoag Nation, which is the Native American tribe that met the Pilgrims at Plymouth. The Wampanoag tribe holds an annual Pow Wow in July. Mashpee is a prime resort and retirement community that maintains contributes to Cape Cod's economic vitality while protecting its natural resources and sense of tranquility.

Popponesset Beach Weather & Climate

The Cape Cod region has a four season climate with maritime influences. The weather here is generally more moderate than inland Massachusetts. Extreme conditions such as blizzards and hurricanes are possible, but not typical. Due to the moderating affect of the ocean, temperatures in the Cape Cod region are usually a few degrees cooler in summer and a few degrees warmer in winter. Spring comes late and is chilly, but autumn is mild and remains warmer than places further inland. The Cape Cod region has the lowest precipitation of anyplace in New England. Tropical storms occur once every 5 or 6 years, with very high winds and heavy rain. On average, the area is hit by a hurricane once every 11 or 12 years.
