Huntington
is located in the "Hidden Hills" region of western Massachusetts, where the flatlands of the Pioneer Valley give way to the Appalachian foothills. The population is approximately 2,200 residents. Huntington is called the "Gateway to the Berkshires," and is nestled within a rare, natural formation that was the result of an ancient glacial. Elevations in this region reach 1400 feet. Gorgeous scenery and tons of recreational activities abound here. Scenic attractions include Chesterfield Gorge, which is along the Westfield Wild & Scenic River, Glendale Falls, Notchville Reservation and Petticoat Hill Reservation. Some of the activities available include hiking, fishing, picnicking, birding, biking, golf, whitewater rafting and camping. It's also a great place for antiquing and shopping. The town of Huntington has several specialty shops and restaurants. Other places to visit in Huntington include Norwich Lake Farm & Sugarhouse Restaurant and the Gateway Farm & Pet. Northern Connecticut has a temperate, four-season climate of warm summers and cold, but not frigid winters. The average annual snowfall increases from the coast to the northwestern corner of the State. Most of the snow falls in January and February, but substantial amounts can fall in December or March, as well. The percentage of sunny days averages 55 to 60 percent. An average of about 140 cloudy days occur per year. Heavy or dense fog is most common inland during the late summer and fall, for an average of 25 days per year. The humidity tends to be lowest in the spring and highest in the late summer and early fall. The number of days with temperatures of zero or below average about 10 per year at the higher elevations.
