Dennis
is located on the upper arm of Cape Cod, midway above the elbow. It is bordered by Cape Cod Bay on the north, Brewster and Harwich on the east, Nantucket Sound on the south, and Yarmouth on the west and is about 76 miles from Boston. Named an "All American Town" in 1978, Dennis combines traditional New England heritage and charm with modern day conveniences. The villages of Dennis, East Dennis and South Dennis feature scenic historic districts dating back to the whaling days, while Dennisport and West Dennis have residential areas with tranquil, tree-lined streets. The quiet little town of Dennis was incorporated in 1793 and named for Josiah Dennis, a favorite minister. The town was involved in the maritime activities of the 1800s and as the twentieth century approached and the glory days of sea captains faded, Dennis residents turned to commercial fishing and tourism. Dennis is popular during the summer months offering special events in the town each week. Sixteen stunning beaches of Nantucket Sound are to the south and the crisp refreshing waters of Cape Cod Bay lie to the north. There are also numerous recreation trails available in the area for hiking, walking, jogging or biking. Well-developed business districts throughout the villages provide ample shops, restaurants and other services. Dennis is also home to the nations oldest summer theater, the Cape Playhouse. Dennis offers various summer activities, including arts and craft shows, concerts on the village green and Dennis Festival Days, usually held in August.

The Cape Cod region has a four season climate with maritime influences. The weather here is generally more moderate than inland Massachusetts. Extreme conditions such as blizzards and hurricanes are possible, but not typical. Due to the moderating affect of the ocean, temperatures in the Cape Cod region are usually a few degrees cooler in summer and a few degrees warmer in winter. Spring comes late and is chilly, but autumn is mild and remains warmer than places further inland. The Cape Cod region has the lowest precipitation of anyplace in New England. Tropical storms occur once every 5 or 6 years, with very high winds and heavy rain. On average, the area is hit by a hurricane once every 11 or 12 years.
