Yarmouth
is a historic town located in the Mid-Cape region of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The 17-square mile town is actually comprised of three villages: West Yarmouth, Yarmouth Port and South Yarmouth. Each villages has its' own distinct character and attractions. Incorporated in 1639, Yarmouth is the second oldest town on the Cape (after Sandwich) and at the height of the shipping boom, Yarmouth Port boasted a "Captain's Row," which contained 50 fine sea captains' homes, most of which remain to this day. The town is bordered by Cape Cod Bay on the north, Dennis on the east, Nantucket Sound on the south and Barnstable on the west (the town actually extends from Cape Cod Bay on the north across the peninsula south to Nantucket Sound.) Outdoor recreation opportunities in the area include five freshwater and fifteen saltwater beaches, four golf courses for all levels, fourteen tennis courts and many hiking and nature trails. In Yarmouth Port, tree-lined historic Route 6A hosts an array of country inns and quaint bed & breakfasts, along with antique shops and craft shops. The Southside along Route 28 offers more of the hustle and bustle you would expect of a summertime resort town, from factory outlet shops and miniature golf to sea lion shows. As part of the Mid-Cape region, Yarmouth has easy access to the busy resort town of Hyannis, home of the JFK Museum and Ocean Street Docks, which includes ferries to and from the islands of Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard. Yarmouth is about 65 miles southwest of Provincetown and 23 miles east of the Cape Cod Canal.

The Cape Cod region has a four season climate with maritime influences. The weather here is generally more moderate than inland Massachusetts. Extreme conditions such as blizzards and hurricanes are possible, but not typical. Due to the moderating affect of the ocean, temperatures in the Cape Cod region are usually a few degrees cooler in summer and a few degrees warmer in winter. Spring comes late and is chilly, but autumn is mild and remains warmer than places further inland. The Cape Cod region has the lowest precipitation of anyplace in New England. Tropical storms occur once every 5 or 6 years, with very high winds and heavy rain. On average, the area is hit by a hurricane once every 11 or 12 years.
