Cummaquid
is a small village located within the town of Barnstable on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. It lies roughly on the line between the towns of Barnstable and Yarmouthport on Route 6A. This is called the "bicep area" of the Cape Cod peninsula, and is bordered by the Nantucket Sound on the south and Cape Cod Bay on the north. Seven small villages altogether are located within the town of Barnstable. Barnstable Village offers a small business district and working harbor, plus several small beaches. Both Barnstable Village and West Barnstable have retained their Old World Colonial charm with old restored sea captains' homes, cranberry bogs, salt marshes and beautiful Barnstable Harbor. Several museums are located in Barnstable County including the John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum, Cape Cod Children's Museum, Cape Cod Museum of Natural History, a Railroad Museum and Sandwich Glass Museum and the Cape Cod Discovery Museum. Other villages located within the town of Barnstable include Hyannis, Osterville, Cotuit and Marstons Mills. Things to do on the cape include swimming, biking, kayaking, whale watching, hiking, golf and tennis, antiquing, visiting art galleries and dining in fine seafood restaurants. Martha's Vineyard is an easy day trip away.

The Cape Cod region has a four season climate with maritime influences. The weather here is generally more moderate than inland Massachusetts. Extreme conditions such as blizzards and hurricanes are possible, but not typical. Due to the moderating affect of the ocean, temperatures in the Cape Cod region are usually a few degrees cooler in summer and a few degrees warmer in winter. Spring comes late and is chilly, but autumn is mild and remains warmer than places further inland. The Cape Cod region has the lowest precipitation of anyplace in New England. Tropical storms occur once every 5 or 6 years, with very high winds and heavy rain. On average, the area is hit by a hurricane once every 11 or 12 years.
