Westford
is located in Middlesex County in northeastern Massachusetts. As of 2010, the population was 21,951. The town is alleged to have been along the path of Paul Revere's historic ride on April 19, 1775, however there is no documentation of this. It is true that Paul Revere's son attended Westford Academy and a bell cast by him sits in the school's lobby today. There is also a weather vane made by Paul Revere atop the Abbot Elementary School in Westford. At the end of the Civil War, the town of Westford became a residential suburb of residents who worked in the factories of the city of Lowell. The town continued to grow, but even today continues to be largely residential. It's home to the Roudenbush Community Center, the Parish Center for the Arts, the Butterfly Place, the J.V. Fletcher Library and the MIT Haystack Observatory. The Kimball Farm is also located in Westford and features miniature golf, bumper boats, an ice cream stand and other attractions. Nearby is the Nashoba Valley Ski Area. The town does put on several annual events, including the Apple Blossom Parade and Carnival in May and the Strawberry Festival in June. Also, the Westford Rotary Club hosts the Blues & Brews Festival at the Nashoba Valley Ski Area in August. In October, the Witch's Woods Halloween Screampark is held at the Nashoba Valley Ski Resort.

Northeast Massachusetts has a humid continental climate with warm summers and cold, snowy winters. Rainfall averages 40 inches and is distributed fairly evenly throughout the year. Snowfall can exceed 100 inches in a season. Winter is cold in the northeast coastal region, but much colder further inland. Springs are usually wet and cloudy. Autumn is mild and comes earlier than other regions in the U.S. Extreme weather such as severe thunderstorms, nor'easters and hurricanes are a possibility. Hurricanes generally weaken to a tropical storm by the time they reach the state, however. A nor'easter is a winter storm with winds coming from the northeast that can bring heavy snow and strong winds.
