Stockbridge
is a village set in the peaceful Berkshire Hills of western Massachusetts, in a valley situated between the mountains and the Housatonic River. This quintessential New England town has the most famous Main Street in America, as painted by world-renowned artist Norman Rockwell, a long time Stockbridge resident. Described by Rockwell as "the best of America, the best of New England," Stockbridge has four seasons of picture postcard beauty and a home town character filled with history and culture, beautiful gardens and outdoor recreational opportunities. The Berkshire Botanical Garden is located in Stockbridge, with display gardens open daily, May through October. Other attractions in town include the Norman Rockwell Museum, Mission House, Naumkeag Garden Tours, Chesterwood Museum and studio of Daniel Chester French, sculptor of The Minute Man and the Lincoln Memorial. Tanglewood, which is the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, is also located near Stockbridge. It is world famous for its' music festivals, attracting more than 300,000 visitors each season for its symphonic, chamber and jazz performances. History and literary buffs will enjoy visiting the recreation of Nathaniel Hawthorne's cottage, located near Tanglewood and open for tours during the summer months. Hawthorne wrote The House of Seven Gables while living in a similar cottage in Stockbridge (the actual home that the book is based on is located in Salem, Massachusetts, where Hawthorne was born.)

Stockbridge Weather & Climate

Western New York, including The Berkshires, has a moderate four-season climate. The first significant snowfall usually occurs in December, but it varies from year to year. Some years there is no snow or ice until after the first of the new year, and the temperatures near The Hudson River stay quite mild. March is the month to look for the first signs of spring, although cool temps can linger throughout the month. Summers are hazy, warm and humid. September can be mixed with either clear, cool Canadian air or humid, warm air with intense downpours. October is possibly the most beautiful month in the Berkshires with warm, sunny days and cool, crisp nights. Perfect weather for enjoying the foliage. Typically, colors peak the first three weeks of October.
