Sandwich
is a quaint, quiet New England village located in the northwest corner of Cape Cod, approximately 15 miles west of Hyannis and 57 miles southeast of Boston. Sandwich is the oldest town on Cape Cod, incorporated in 1639, nearly 150 before the American Revolution. Full of historical interest and seaside charm, the town offers plenty to see and do, making it an ideal place to live or visit. It is situated on both sides of the Cape Cod Canal, with the majority of the population on the southerly side. Commercial fishermen and lobstermen can be seen daily, working from the docks at the Sandwich Marina, which is the only harbor along the canal. Near the marina is historic Sandwich Village, which is known around the world as a tourist destination that gives a glimpse into New England's rich colonial past. Attractions include the Hoxie House (which is the oldest house on Cape Cod, built in 1675) the Daniel Webster Inn, Sandwich Glass Museum, Heritage Museums and Gardens, the Dexter Grist Mill and Thornton Burgess Museum. In addition, the town has many art galleries, rare bookstores and antique stores. The Sandwich Boardwalk crosses Mill Creek and leads to a beautiful public beach on Cape Cod Bay. It is one of the treasures of Sandwich, offering scenic views from Cape Cod Canal to Scorton Creek. There are three saltwater and two freshwater beaches in Sandwich where you can enjoy swimming, boating and fishing, and over 1,300 acres of conservation land offers walking and hiking. Bicycling and rollerblading is available along the seven-mile long path at Cape Cod Canal and golf is available at several area courses.

The Cape Cod region has a four season climate with maritime influences. The weather here is generally more moderate than inland Massachusetts. Extreme conditions such as blizzards and hurricanes are possible, but not typical. Due to the moderating affect of the ocean, temperatures in the Cape Cod region are usually a few degrees cooler in summer and a few degrees warmer in winter. Spring comes late and is chilly, but autumn is mild and remains warmer than places further inland. The Cape Cod region has the lowest precipitation of anyplace in New England. Tropical storms occur once every 5 or 6 years, with very high winds and heavy rain. On average, the area is hit by a hurricane once every 11 or 12 years.
