Buzzards-Bay
is located at the gateway to Cape Cod on the Upper Cape, which also includes the towns of Falmouth, Mashpee and Sandwich. The two bridges accessing the Cape, over the Cape Cod Canal, are also located here. Buzzards Bay is part of the town of Bourne, which is comprised of ten "villages." They are Bourne Village, Bournedale, Buzzards Bay, Cape Cod Air Station, Cataumet, Gray Gables, Monument Beach, Pocasset, Sagamore and Sagamore Beach. The Buzzards Bay area is bordered by the historical settlement of Plymouth on the north and it is approximately 57 miles southeast of Boston. The Cape Cod Canal, which bisects the community of Bourne, is well known for its superb fishing. The Bourne Scenic Park campground is located beneath the Bourne Bridge and there are numerous harbors and inlets for sailing and boating in the area. The town of Bourne and its' villages is a quiet area without the heavy tourist traffic of some of the other areas of Cape Cod, although its' population does nearly double in the summer months. Bourne is home to an annual Scallop Festival, usually held in September each year, and the Wampanoag Nation holds an annual Pow Wow in the town of Mashpee each July. Nearby Sandwich Village is known for its' Colonial era attractions such as Hoxie House (the oldest house on Cape Cod, built in 1675,) the Sandwich Glass Museum, Daniel Webster Inn, Dexter Grist Mill and the Heritage Museum and Gardens.

The Cape Cod region has a four season climate with maritime influences. The weather here is generally more moderate than inland Massachusetts. Extreme conditions such as blizzards and hurricanes are possible, but not typical. Due to the moderating affect of the ocean, temperatures in the Cape Cod region are usually a few degrees cooler in summer and a few degrees warmer in winter. Spring comes late and is chilly, but autumn is mild and remains warmer than places further inland. The Cape Cod region has the lowest precipitation of anyplace in New England. Tropical storms occur once every 5 or 6 years, with very high winds and heavy rain. On average, the area is hit by a hurricane once every 11 or 12 years.
