New-Marlborough
is a small town located in southwestern Massachusetts in Berkshire County. It has a population of approximately 1,400 and is near the cities of Great Barrington and Pittsfield and is about 136 miles southwest of Boston. New Marlborough encompasses the villages of Clayton, Hartsville, Mill River and Southfield. First settled in 1739 and incorporated in 1759, the town was once a stop on the Red Bird Stagecoach Line. Today, New Marlborough is classified as a rural, residential community with a well-preserved downtown area centered around a village green. Nearby parks include Lake Buel and Campbell Falls is located off Route 272, where the Whiting River drops over a split rock ledge into a 100-foot gulch. Visitors to New Marlborough will find an abundance of recreational activities available in the region, such as hiking, rock climbing, horseback riding, boating and fishing, golf, cross country skiing and snowmobiling. Nearby attractions include Arrowhead, home and museum of author Herman Melville, the Berkshire Museum and the Hancock Shaker Village, Beartown State Forest, Ski Butternut Family Ski Resort, Tanglewood and the Norman Rockwell Museum.

Southwest Massachusetts has four very distinct seasons and is classified as having a humid continental climate. Summers are hot and humid and winters are cold and snowy. Spring and autumn are mild, with autumn being the sunnier of the two seasons. A humid continental climate is marked by large seasonal temperature variances. It can be as hot has 90 degrees in summer and as cold as zero degrees in winter. The temperature difference increases the further inland one goes, away from the moderating influence of the ocean. Thunderstorms are possible in spring and summer, with average rainfall at about 40 inches per year. Snowfall can exceed 100 inches in a year. Other severe weather includes nor'easters, blizzards, and ice storms.
